This is the first of a new weekly series we’re trying out. Every Tuesday we will post links to a handful of dj sets from Iowa related djs. People who live here, or are from here; have played here, or are about to. These mixes are meant to showcase some of the best djs in our state, and the mixes that they think are their best. These are mixes that should be heard, presented in a manageable stack every week. Check out invasiondsm.com or facebook.com/invasiondsm/ for these and more. If you have any mixes you want featured send us a message.
Entering its 8th year, Mindblur’s “At the End of the Rabbit Hole” on Glitch.FM is by far Iowa’s longest running weekly internet radio show. His assault on your brain waves can be heard every Monday from 6pm-8pm Central. Invasion Radio runs in the second hour of this behemoth. This week’s show featured Mindblur the first hour and Invasion guest dj James Garcia in the second. If you like what you hear, there’s a mountain of archives on the Mixcloud page.

Originally from Iowa, Cory Simpson, now resides and hosts multiple events in Seattle, Washington. From the deep minimal sounds of the weekly DEPTH series at Club Contour, to the brutal hard Techno focused MACABRE, and Industrial techno sounds of BLACK LEATHER, both at the private members only Club Mercury @ Machinewerks, and the newly launched ROOTS events, focusing on underground techno hero’s at Timber Room, Cory’s range of musical stylings branches across multiple genres and tempos. You can hear more from him, and the sounds he represents via his FNoob podcast Subduction Sessions, and via mixcloud at www.mixcloud.com/Subductionsessions. ”Parting Waves” is a punishing 3-hour beast of a Hard Techno mix with tempos reaching into the mid 130s.

It’s been a couple months, but in August Drop Bass Network did another Even Furthur festival in Wisconsin, and The Invasion, Udopia, and Ekvilibrium were there representing Iowa hard on the “Children of the Corn” stage. Even Furthur has a long history and was throughout the 90s the original Midwest rave festival, featuring early sets by Richie Hawtin/Plastikman, Aphex Twin, and the first U.S. appearance of Daft Punk. We will likely do a special feature on Iowa at Furthur in the coming weeks, but for now here’s a small preview. nnothing from Des Moines (Invasion) with a Drum n Bass set, and Cameron Byers from Cedar Rapids (Iowa Techno) playing Techno.
